"Very mysterious of you." Ayano laughed. "Hmmmm....you still haven't told me what these other pieces do."

Lelouch chuckled. "Thank you. Anyways....This is a rook." Lelouch said pointing to the piece that looks like a castle,"The rook can move any number of squares in a straight line along any column or row. They CANNOT move diagonally. In the example shown in the diagram on the left, the rook can move or capture in any square that has a blue dot. The simplicity of the rook's movement is indeed what makes it powerful. It can cover a significant area of the board and there are no areas which an opponent's piece - moving one square at a time - can slip through."

"So...if I use the rook correctly, the pawn is useless..?" Ayano tilted her head. (I thought you said rock for a moment, lol)

(sorry) "Every piece has it's use. You just have to know how to use it....The pawn has to be moved before any other piece can be moved." Lelouch then pointed to the horse shaped piece,
"The knight is the only piece on the board that may jump over other pieces. This gives it a degree of flexibility that makes it a powerful piece. The knight's movement can also be viewed as an "L" laid out at any horizontal or vertical angle. Note that the squares to where the knight can move are all of the opposite colored squares two steps away from his starting square. This may help you visualize the knights range of influence on the board."

"L...okay..." Ayano nodded. "Horse goes in an L." (I'm just a bit of a spaz. ^^)

(*chuckle* That's fine. It's cute) "The bishop may move any number of squares in a diagonal direction until it is prevented from continuing by another piece." he said pointing to them,"Each player begins with two bishops, one originally situated on a light square, the other on a dark square. Because of the nature of their movement, the bishops always remain on the same colored squares."

(O////////O Y-YOU....-////- I know you just do that to get a recation out of me...)
Ayano nodded. "Okay." She was starting to understand the game better, but she doubted she could beat Lelouch. u_u; Maybe in ten years or so...

(*chuckles darkly* maybe) He smiled at her and pointed to another piece. "The queen is, without doubt, the most powerful piece on the chessboard. She can move as many squares as she desires and in any direction."he then pointed to the last piece,
"Though not the most powerful piece on the board, the king is the most vital, for once he is lost the game is lost...the king can only move one square in any direction. There is only one restriction on his movement - he may not move into a position where he may be captured by an opposing piece. Because of this rule, two kings may never stand next to each other or capture each other."

(...I'll get revenge....somehow...SOMEDAY...) "Hm. So the QUEEN is the most powerful piece.." If they had been standing, Ayano would have tripped or something.

Lelouch nodded. "But you must not under estimate the power of all your pieces....For the game to end you must get the opposing king into "check", which is when they are in danger of being capture...To win....get the opposing king into "check mate" which is when the opposing king will be captured, no matter what move your opponent makes."

"Okay..do I have to move another pawn...or can I...move something BEHIND that pawn?" Ayano had her hand on her chin.
